Metro Vancouver Daily Water Use Update

Metro Vancouver has set a regional water use target of under 1.4 billion litres per day while the First Narrows Crossing is out of service and work is taking place on the Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel Project. The target is slightly lower than the peak 2025 daily summer use of around 1.5 billion litres. In winter, the average is one billion litres per day.

Keeping water use under 1.4 billion litres per day will ensure water pressure is not affected. Lower water pressure could affect the ability of first responders to use water for emergencies, like fighting fires.

Water use increases with higher temperatures. On hot, dry days, members of the public are urged to comply with Stage 3 restrictions and take extra steps, if possible, to further reduce their outdoor water use.
